What’s On contacted True Gamers to inquire about the island’s prospective site, confirming it will be named eSports Island and situated in Al Raha Creek near Hope Island in Abu Dhabi’s Al Seef area. The ambitious project is projected to exceed $280 million in costs and is slated to be a pioneering venture globally.
Natural History Museum
Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi is set to house a Natural History Museum slated for opening in 2025, and we’re eagerly awaiting updates. The museum promises captivating exhibits designed to illuminate the universe’s 13.8 billion-year history, alongside a scientific research center. March saw an announcement confirming the project’s completion at 65%, keeping it on track for the estimated 2025 delivery date. Visitors can anticipate traditional features found in Natural History Museums worldwide, showcasing Earth’s history and iconic displays like London Museum’s renowned ‘Dippy’ the Diplodocus, known for its full skeletal reconstruction of extinct creatures.
Zayed National Museum
Once finished, the Zayed National Museum will stand as a remarkable architectural feat, serving as a fitting tribute to our nation’s inspiring history and its visionary founder. Situated on Saadiyat Island, already a hub of cultural significance, this stunning structure designed by Foster + Partners will feature a towering 123-meter-high tower. The centerpiece will be a main gallery showcasing artifacts that illuminate the life and leadership journey of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, spanning from the country’s unification to beyond. Additional galleries will explore themes such as Falconry and Conservation, Land and Water, History and Society, Science and Learning, and Faith and Islam, along with hosting the prestigious Sheikh Zayed Library. Construction on the building commenced in 2019, and we share your anticipation regarding its completion date. Meanwhile, at Dubai’s Etihad Museum, visitors can get a preview of what awaits at the Zayed National Museum’s grand opening.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
The Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum is set to bring a captivating element to the skyline of Saadiyat Cultural District. True to the ethos of the Guggenheim brand and developed in partnership with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the building’s plans showcase a contemporary, unconventional, yet uniquely beautiful design. TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi
Promoted as ‘the home of infinite curiosity,’ teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi has accelerated into high gear, with 70 percent of development on one of Abu Dhabi’s most eagerly awaited megaprojects now finished (as of January 2024). Crafted by the renowned Tokyo-based art collective teamLab, this immersive journey through experiential artworks will span 17,000 square meters, providing inspirational spaces where art and technology converge in wonderous ways. Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Abu Dhabi developers Al Qudra have revealed their ambitious vision to convert a 245,000 sqm area in Abu Dhabi’s W64 Zone, with commanding views of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, into an elegant leisure and entertainment complex featuring striking white-washed walls. The concept art for the Traditional Souk showcases a scale and design quality that inspire genuine admiration. Surf Abu Dhabi
Surf Abu Dhabi is poised to become “the largest and most advanced artificial wave facility in the world,” as reported by WAM, the Emirates News Agency. Scheduled for opening in 2024, it represents a pinnacle achievement within Modon’s extensive masterplan for Hudayriyat Island, which includes notable additions such as the region’s first velodrome and Abu Dhabi’s largest urban park. Set to open in 2025, Velodrome Abu Dhabi is on course to introduce the region’s first UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track. Nammos, a prominent name in the global beach club scene, is branching out into hotels with the introduction of Nammos Hotels & Resorts. Excitingly, this expansion includes a debut in Abu Dhabi, although the specific location has yet to be confirmed. According to the announcement, Nammos Hotels & Resorts aims to deliver an unparalleled hospitality experience that reflects the essence of its existing offerings while embodying a genuine sense of laid-back luxury.
Nobu Hotel and Beach Club
Abu Dhabi is set to welcome another iconic brand with the arrival of Nobu, and it’s more than just a restaurant. The Nobu Hospitality concepts, in collaboration with Aldar properties, will debut on the picturesque Mamsha beach of Saadiyat Island in 2026, enriching the cultural and culinary landscape of Saadiyat Grove.
The beachfront hotel will offer 165 upscale and modern guest rooms and suites, including an exclusive VIP experience in the rooftop Nobu Villa. Guests can indulge in Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s renowned Japanese cuisine at Abu Dhabi’s first Nobu restaurant, along with three additional dining venues and bars. A next-level wellness center and multiple swimming pools will provide pampering and relaxation options.
A highlight of the experience will be the luxurious daytime clubbing scene at Abu Dhabi’s Nobu Beach Club, the UAE’s second Nobu beach club following Nobu by the Beach. This comprehensive offering underscores Nobu’s commitment to delivering a sophisticated blend of hospitality, cuisine, and lifestyle in one of Abu Dhabi’s most captivating settings.
Saadiyat Grove
Saadiyat Grove is set to significantly shape the landscape of Saadiyat Island, blending leisure, commercial, and residential elements into a cohesive project that connects the cultural mega projects with the beachfront entertainment district of Mamsha Al Saadiyat. Mina Zayed redevelopment
Mina Zayed, named in honor of the UAE’s founding father, is a 40-year-old port-side community that played a pivotal role in Abu Dhabi’s rapid evolution into a thriving trading hub. The ambitious revitalization project, spanning three million square meters, aims to transform the area into a dynamic blend of residential, tourism, and entertainment destinations, while preserving its vibrant commercial legacy.Upon completion, visitors can look forward to enhanced shopping experiences, including a new fish market, seasonal market, and revitalized plant souq. Ramhan Island
The latest island to undergo a mega project transformation is Ramhan Island in Abu Dhabi, situated east of the evolving Jubail Island. This ambitious development will encompass a variety of features, including 1,800 villas, a luxurious 120-key hotel, 900 marina apartment residencies, a 1.7km retail parade, and 120 marina berths. Additionally, there will be a wellness hub, restaurants, a beach bar on the community beach, green spaces, running tracks, a nursery, mosque, school, and more.
Ramhan Island promises impressive villa options, with top-tier residences offering private stretches of beachfront. The residential aspect will be divided into four distinct communities: Marine, Breeze, Cove, and Views. Notably, the development will feature ‘floating villas’ designed for overwater living, providing panoramic sea views and direct access to adjacent sandbars. LXR Hotels & Resorts
It’s not just Bond villains who appreciate an island retreat; it’s also a favored choice for sun-seeking vacationers. That’s why LXR, the luxury independent brand of Hilton Hotels, has set its sights on Abu Dhabi’s Al Nawras Island, aiming to transform it into a comprehensive leisure destination complete with its own golf course. Anticipated to debut in 2023, this resort on Al Nawras Island is designed to harmonize with its surroundings, featuring 80 spacious villas nestled between the beach and the waterfront. Among its attractions are three swimming pools, tennis and padel courts, a spa, two signature restaurants, two bars, a beach club, a kids’ club, and an aquatic center with a splash pad. This ambitious project promises to offer guests a luxurious blend of relaxation and recreation, all set against the backdrop of Abu Dhabi’s natural beauty.
Saadiyat Lagoons
Saadiyat Lagoons will introduce 4 to 6-bedroom mangrove villas nestled amidst 900,000 square meters of protected wildlife. The development encompasses shopping centers, kindergartens, and a versatile multifunctional hall. Villas offer customizable interiors with options ranging from cool gray tones to dark wood and warm beige schemes. Each villa is equipped with a garage featuring electric car charging, reflecting a forward-looking approach. Dubai Mangroves
Led by URB, the team renowned for Dubai Reefs and The Loop, the proposed Dubai Mangroves project aims to set a groundbreaking precedent by planting over 100 million mangrove trees along a 72-kilometer stretch of coastline. This ambitious initiative includes educational and entertaining facilities such as the Mangrove Visitor Hub, a Botanical Museum, and a Nature Reserve Conservation Center. Visitors can participate in guided nature walks, educational programs, and various conservation activities as part of the project’s comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship and public engagement.
 Palm Jebel Ali
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, revealed the masterplan for Palm Jebel Ali early in 2023. This expanded mega project will cover an area twice the size of the original Palm, spanning approximately 13.4 square kilometers. Comprising seven interconnected islands, Palm Jebel Ali is slated to accommodate a remarkable 80 new hotels and resorts. While details are still emerging, Sheikh Mohammed tweeted that the development will feature “a wide range of entertainment and leisure facilities.” Initial plans for Palm Jebel Ali included six marinas, a water theme park, and a ‘Sea Village’ concept, where residences would be constructed over the water. As anticipation builds, we eagerly await further announcements to see what other exciting features will be unveiled as part of this monumental project.
Al Maktoum International Airport expansion
Plans have been unveiled to further expand Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central (DWC) in Dubai South, with ambitions to become the world’s largest airport. Currently designed for a capacity of five to seven million passengers, the completed expansion aims to accommodate over 260 million passengers. Phase 1 of the project, expected to be completed by 2030, will support an annual capacity of 130 million passengers. This phase includes the construction of two additional runways, Concourse 1, and the West Terminal building. The expanded airport will feature a wide array of amenities including retail outlets, dining options, relaxation areas, and entertainment facilities. With a completion target set for 2050, the development of Al Maktoum International Airport represents a monumental step forward in Dubai’s strategic plans to establish itself as a global aviation hub.

If you’re a fan of the Dubai Metro, get ready for a major upgrade that could significantly impact your daily commute. The Blue Line for Dubai’s Metro, initially proposed in 2006 alongside expansions for the existing Red and Green lines, is now gaining traction once again after adjustments due to global economic conditions. Recently approved by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Blue Line will traverse key areas such as Marsa, Dubai Creek, Festival City, International City, Al Rashidiya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, and urban districts like Silicon Oasis and Academic City. Set to commence construction this year, the Dubai Metro Blue Line promises to enhance connectivity and accessibility across Dubai, potentially transforming travel dynamics for residents and commuters alike.
Dubai Metro expansion
On June 30, 2024, the Executive Council of Dubai greenlit additional phases for the Dubai Metro. The initiative aims to expand the network to 96 stations covering 140 square kilometers by 2030 and to 140 stations across 228 square kilometers by 2040. Currently, the Dubai Metro comprises 35 stations on the Red Line, 20 on the Green Line, and 11 on the Dubai Tram line. Plans for the Blue Line include 14 stations, with further expansion updates eagerly anticipated and will be promptly shared upon announcement.
Dubai Green Spine
The latest development in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan introduces the ambitious Dubai Green Spine Project, set to revolutionize Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (E311) into a sustainable corridor. Spearheaded by urban planning and development firm URB, the project will entail the reconstruction of approximately 64 kilometers of the road. Key features of the Dubai Green Spine Project include the implementation of a new non-motorized public transportation system aimed at reducing the city’s carbon footprint. This initiative will incorporate dedicated walking and bicycle tracks, as well as lush green spaces, gardens, playgrounds, and outdoor fitness areas. By integrating these elements, the project not only aims to enhance the environmental sustainability of Dubai but also promote active and healthy lifestyles among residents.
Jebel Ali Beach
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has approved the Jebel Ali Beach megaproject, slated to transform a southern stretch of the emirate into Dubai’s longest public open beach spanning 6.6 kilometers. The development will feature an expansive open beach, scenic viewing platforms, recreational facilities, and service areas catering to beach enthusiasts of all ages, complete with sports facilities, marine activity zones, and more.
Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 beach
This ambitious project will transform two beaches in Dubai completely. The beaches will undergo elevation, not only in the conventional sense to combat climate change impacts but also in a contemporary sense that signifies heightened elegance. It’s important to mention for those who frequent Jumeirah 1 and Al Mamzar that both beaches will stay partially accessible throughout the renovation process.
Burj Azizi
Dubai is poised to create a stunning addition to its skyline with the upcoming Burj Azizi, set to become a remarkable architectural icon. Anticipated for completion by 2028, Burj Azizi will feature a vertical shopping mall, a prestigious “seven-star” hotel, luxurious residences, an observation deck, and multiple upscale dining options.
Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower
Dubai is set to welcome an extraordinary addition to its skyline: a groundbreaking residential tower. This won’t be just any tower—it will mark the city’s debut of a residential clock tower, and in typical Dubai fashion, it’s aiming to claim the title of the world’s tallest residential clock tower. The collaboration between Swiss luxury watchmaker Franck Muller and UAE’s esteemed real estate developer, London Gate, will give rise to the Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower, soaring to an impressive height of 450 meters in Dubai Marina. As per Franck Muller’s announcement, this lavish residential project is scheduled for its official unveiling in January 2024, with residents expected to move in by 2026.
Bugatti Residences by Binghatti
Bugatti and Binghatti, two innovative brands, have joined forces for a pioneering real estate project in Dubai named Bugatti Residences by Binghatti. This development marks the world’s first Bugatti-branded residences and will be situated in the vibrant Business Bay area of Dubai. Positioned adjacent to the iconic The Opus by OMNIYAT, designed by Zaha Hadid, Bugatti Residences by Binghatti will feature 171 Riviera Mansions and 11 Sky Mansion Penthouses, each boasting a distinctive and custom-designed layout.
Dubai Reefs
During the COP28 summit at Expo City in December, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince, officially launched the groundbreaking Dubai Reef project, poised to become one of the world’s largest marine reef developments. In April 2024, Sheikh Hamdan oversaw the launch of the initial reef modules, marking the beginning of a comprehensive effort to establish a 600 square kilometer reef network across Dubai’s waters. Over the next four years, Dubai Can’s sustainable initiative, the Dubai Reef project, plans to deploy 20,000 purpose-built reef modules of varying sizes. These modules are designed to collectively exceed 400,000 cubic meters in volume across the expansive area.
Dubai Islands
Formerly known as Deira Islands, the project off the coast of Deira was rebranded as Dubai Islands in August 2022 by master developer Nakheel. This ambitious development aims to revolutionize waterfront living with five distinct islands offering a variety of unique experiences. Each island will feature innovative residential options, cultural centers, recreational sports facilities, beaches, and beach clubs. The development will also host more than 80 resorts and hotels, including luxury, wellness, boutique, family-oriented, and eco-conscious accommodations. Nakheel’s vision for Dubai Islands is set to bolster Dubai’s tourism and hospitality sector significantly.
The development already boasts a Riu and Centara hotel, and future additions include a Rixos hotel and residences. Spanning 20 kilometers of coastline, it includes a Blue Flag-certified beach, a prestigious accolade granted to beaches that adhere to rigorous environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility standards.
The World Islands
The World Islands, an extraordinarily ambitious island project launched in 2008, has recently seen significant activity after more than a decade of dormancy. Various megaprojects are now emerging across the archipelago. Visitors can already experience the luxurious Anantara resort and the voco Monaco Dubai (formerly Cote D’Azur Monaco). On the same island, attractions include ‘the raining street’, the largest swimming pool in the Middle East, and a range of upcoming hotels set to introduce European charm to Dubai.
Amali Properties, based in Dubai, has revealed plans for an idyllic private island within the prestigious World Islands archipelago mega project. This iconic new residential destination is positioned to become a haven for millionaires, offering “Dubai’s first true residential sail-in sail-out experience.”
In 2025, Zuha Island will join their ranks, created by the developers behind Abu Dhabi’s renowned Zaya resort. This private island will feature a limited collection of 30 six-bedroom residential villas, along with a boutique retreat comprising 70 villas, each with private pools. It will also include a beach club, as well as a tranquil spa and healing center.
The Island by Wasl
First announced back in 2017, not much has been said about the development of The Island, located close to the Burj Al Arab, in recent years. However, according to Meed, developer Wasl awarded a contract for the construction of the island in November 2023, reconfirming that the project is still in the pipeline. As per Meed, Wasl has appointed China State Construction Engineering Corporation to build The Island, in an estimated USD1.2 billion (Dhs4.4 billion) deal.
During an MGM earnings call on November 8, 2023, MGM President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle disclosed details about The Island development in Dubai. He confirmed that construction was underway and outlined plans for 1,400 hotel rooms under the MGM Grand, Bellagio, and Aria brands. Originally, there were considerations for a casino, but according to a recent earnings call with Hornbuckle, the USD 2.5 billion Dubai project will proceed without a casino component as it has not been approved.
Dubai Square
Emaar has revealed the design of Dubai Square, a groundbreaking retail and entertainment destination where visitors can drive through in electric cars. Positioned in Dubai Creek Harbour and connected to the iconic Dubai Creek Tower, Dubai Square is set to redefine retail experiences beyond traditional shopping environments. The project will incorporate cutting-edge technologies like AI and introduce revolutionary dining, entertainment, and retail concepts to guests.
Dubai Creek Tower
Located in Dubai Creek Harbour, near Ras Al Khor National Wildlife Sanctuary, Dubai Creek Tower was set to be a new landmark architectural marvel with a 360-degree viewing deck inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, a viewing deck with a café, as well as a central plaza featuring shops, a museum, and an indoor auditorium. But, last year in August, Emirates News Agency (WAM) announced it is set to be redesigned. Emaar is expecting to reveal the new concept soon.
The Loop
This ambitious Dubai mega project is spearheaded by URB, the same visionary team behind Dubai Reefs and Dubai Mangroves. By 2040, Dubai will introduce The Loop, a revolutionary 93km climate-controlled urban highway designed to seamlessly connect residents across the city. This innovative infrastructure promises year-round walking and cycling without the discomfort of summer heat. Beyond transportation, The Loop integrates sustainable and eco-friendly technologies, including urban agriculture, parks, and community amenities, ensuring a zero-emissions transport system committed to sustainability.
The Loop aims to serve as the primary mode of transportation for over 80% of Dubai’s population, fostering community cohesion while providing leisure and wellness facilities. This multifaceted development includes expansive parks and vertical farming initiatives to enhance local food security. Sustainability is pivotal, with the urban highway employing cutting-edge environmentally friendly technology, such as 100% renewable kinetic energy flooring and recycled water for park irrigation.

Dubai Urban Tech District
URB’s next visionary project, the Dubai Urban Tech District, will rise along the creek in Al Jaddaf, envisioned as a “living laboratory” at the forefront of green urban technology and innovation. Spanning 140,000 square meters, this mini-city-within-a-city will generate 4,000 jobs and feature state-of-the-art facilities for conferences, training, research, seminars, and business incubation. Shared offices and restaurants will also be available, promoting collaborative work environments.

Hatta Beach
Hatta is gearing up for multiple megaprojects, with the latest approved in January 2024 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
