Great news for regular commuters around the Trade Centre area Travel times are about to get a major upgrade with the opening of two brand-new bridges at the Trade Centre Roundabout. Part of the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, these bridges will handle traffic from 2nd December Street toward Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Majlis Street, offering two lanes in each direction.
Spanning a total of 2,000 metres, the bridges are set to significantly improve traffic flow, cutting travel time from 2nd December Street to Al Majlis Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, and Zabeel Palace Street from 10 minutes down to just 2 minutes. A real game-changer for daily travel.
Designed to handle up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, the new infrastructure is set to ease congestion in this high-traffic area, keeping vehicles moving faster and more smoothly through the Trade Centre Roundabout.
The broader Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project is part of the RTA’s ongoing push to upgrade Dubai’s road network and cut down citywide congestion. The Dhs696 million initiative includes five new bridges and a full upgrade of the existing roundabout, boosting traffic flow at one of Dubai’s busiest junctions. This key intersection connects Sheikh Zayed Road with five major routes: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Road, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Majlis Street—making daily commutes significantly more efficient.
According to HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, the project is moving ahead faster than planned, with a third bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street set to open in March. This progress highlights the RTA’s strong commitment to making mobility smoother and more efficient for residents. With overall completion nearing 50%, the project will roll out in phases, and two additional bridges are scheduled to open in October 2026, supporting traffic from Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Majlis Street toward 2nd December Street.
Once fully completed, the upgrade will be a major win for commuters, slashing average delays at the intersection from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds. Travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street will also drop dramatically from six minutes to only one minute.
More key developments
Once all five bridges are finished, the improvements in the Trade Centre area will continue to boost traffic flow even more. The master plan also includes upgrades to Al Mustaqbal Street, extending from its junction with Zabeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street. This phase will add three new tunnels spanning 1,100 metres, a fresh 400m bridge with two lanes, and widen Al Mustaqbal Street from three to four lanes in each direction. These changes will make a huge difference in keeping traffic moving smoothly throughout the area.
