Great news for students in Dubai!
Private schools are cutting back to 5-hour days during Ramadan, giving you more free time and a little extra space to breathe during the holy month.
Ramadan is almost here
KHDA says this change is designed to keep learning on track while making Ramadan smoother for both students and teachers. Parents and students can look forward to a more relaxed, flexible daily routine that still covers all the key lessons.
And starting Fridays, it just got even easier. Private schools now have to wrap up by 11:30 AM, giving everyone plenty of time to make it to Friday prayers. It’s perfect for families who want to spend the afternoon together or just unwind before the weekend. Students and teachers get a head start on their Friday plans, and lessons still stay on track.
Fasting? PE is off the table
If you’re fasting, no need to stress about PE. KHDA confirmed that fasting students won’t have to take part in physical education classes this Ramadan. Schools will offer alternative activities, so no one misses out on learning. The aim is to keep everyone safe and healthy while respecting the challenges of fasting. That way, you can focus on your studies without pushing yourself too hard.
Your schedule, your choice
Lots of schools are sending out surveys to parents, letting them choose start and finish times that work best for their kids. This gives families the chance to personalize their school days while keeping learning steady. KHDA says it’s all about strengthening the school–family partnership and making Ramadan schedules more flexible for everyone.
Why the change?
KHDA explains that these adjustments are meant to respect the spirit of Ramadan while lightening the load for students and teachers. Shorter days, lighter schedules, and alternative PE activities are all part of creating a supportive environment that takes into account health, social, and religious aspects in the UAE. In short, it’s about making school life during Ramadan safer, more manageable, and a bit less stressful for everyone involved.
