Wave goodbye to the traffic jams on Sheikh Zayed Road!
Dubai is rolling out new and futuristic transport options, from flying taxis to the Etihad Rail megaproject. This week at Gitex Global 2024, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) revealed plans for yet another innovative way to navigate the city, potentially allowing us to bid farewell to the traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The Floc Duo Rail is a sleek, self-driving electric pod rail system that could provide a seamless and hassle-free way to get around Dubai.
The sustainable transport system revolves around the Duo Rail concept, which is an affordable, low-carbon solution designed to help reduce traffic congestion in Dubai.
These autonomous pods can operate both suspended in the air and on the ground, moving along dual tracks within ‘urban clusters.’ They could facilitate direct A to B journeys or transport multiple passengers to various transport networks, including the Dubai Metro.
The bubble-like Floc pods can accommodate up to 16 passengers each and can operate individually or connect together based on the demands of different areas. This means a chain of pods could serve key spots in the city, like Dubai Marina or Downtown, before spreading out to residential neighborhoods.
According to Gulf News, Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Maintenance at RTA, confirmed that the duo pod rail system is currently in the testing phase in Dubai.
While details on ride costs and launch dates weren’t provided, Al Mutawa told Gulf News, “Once it’s mature and safe to operate, we will implement it in Dubai.”
