What would happen, then, if Eid Al Adha fell on a weekend?

Public holidays — just hearing the words is a vibe for UAE folks, and it’s been a hot minute since the last one. So yeah, the hype is totally real.

Up next on the holiday radar — and yeah, most of us are already clued in — is Eid Al Adha 2025. The exact date’s still up in the air since it all hinges on the moon sighting and the call from the official committees.

What we can tell you is that the expected dates (based on astronomical calculations) show that it will begin on Thursday, June 5 which is Arafat Day. This will be followed by Eid Al Adha 2025 on Friday, June 6, Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8.

What happens when Eid Al Adha falls on the weekend?

For all of us who live for that two-day weekend life, if Eid Al Adha ends up landing between Thursday and Sunday, we’re kinda missing out on two legit days off. So now the real question is…

Do we get a bonus day (or two) to make up for it? Is there any kind of adjustment?
Let’s just rip the bandaid off — nope, no extra days.

As per the UAE Cabinet, ‘public holidays that land on weekends won’t be shifted or pushed to a weekday.’
So yeah, if Eid Al Adha ends up falling between June 5 and 8, 2025, we’re looking at just four days off.

If those dates check out, Islamic New Year would land on Friday, June 27, and the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) birthday would follow on Monday, September 1.

Come December, we’ve got Commemoration Day and UAE Union Day (formerly National Day) on the radar. For the 2025 Union Day celebrations, we’re scoring two days off — Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3.

But as usual, we’ll have to wait for the official word. So, stay tuned to whatson.ae — we’ll keep you posted as soon as we get the scoop!
