His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has given the green light to a 3.7 million dirham road development plan for the city. The initiative includes 21 projects across 12 residential, commercial, and industrial zones, adding up to 634km of new roads.
The roadworks for this project are set to span five years, kicking off in 2025 and running through to 2029. This initiative highlights Sheikh Mohammed’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure across both residential and industrial areas.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the Roads and Transport Authority, shared details about the project, saying, “In 2025, internal roads will be built in Nad Al Sheba 3 and Al Amardi, supporting the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment project, which will include 482 new housing units.”
Al Tayer also highlighted that more internal roads will be developed in Hatta, with plans for 92 km of roads in Nadd Hessa and Al Awir 1 set for construction in 2026. Moving into 2027, he noted that 45 km of roads will be built in Al Athbah, Mushrif, and Hatta, alongside an additional 14 km in the Warsan 3 industrial area.
In 2028, Al Tayer revealed that one of the largest internal road projects will be underway, spanning 284 km across three communities: Al Awir 1, Wadi Al Amardi, and Hind 3. This includes 221 km of roads in Al Awir 1, 22 km in Wadi Al Amardi, and 41 km in Hind 3. The construction momentum will carry into 2029, with 200 km of roads planned for Hind 4 and Al Yalayis 5, consisting of 39 km in Hind 4 and 161 km in Al Yalayis 5.

If you’ve ever driven by the Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout, you’ll know it’s a bit of a maze, and it’s always packed with traffic—whether there’s a major exhibition in town or not.
Big changes are on the way for the Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout over the next two years! Five new bridges will be added, stretching a total of 5,000 meters, to link key roads including Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street. This upgrade will smooth out traffic flow and boost connectivity across the area.
The project is designed to supercharge traffic flow and connectivity, doubling the capacity of the intersection. It aims to slash delay times from 12 minutes down to just 90 seconds, and cut travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from 6 minutes to just 1 minute. This upgrade will make a huge difference for commuters, speeding up travel across one of Dubai’s busiest areas.
