ILOE: How to renew your UAE unemployment scheme to avoid fines

Is it time to renew your ILOE insurance subscription?

The UAE’s mandatory Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) Scheme has been in effect since January 2023. It applies to all Emirati and foreign workers in both the private and public sectors, including those in free zones.

The ILOE is a social security measure offering up to three months of compensation if you lose your job. Employees who don’t sign up or renew their unemployment insurance will face a fine of Dhs400.

Employees can pay the premium on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. To be eligible to claim benefits, you must have paid the monthly premium for at least 12 consecutive months.

How do I renew my insurance?

If you opted to pay the ILOE annually, you might have already received a text message from “DIN” reminding you to renew your policy.

Fortunately, renewing your policy is simple with three easy options: online through the official government website, at any Al Ansari Exchange branch, or at a government business center (Tawjeeh or Tasheel).

Make sure to have your Emirates ID number and UAE mobile number ready when renewing your policy.

How much does the UAE Unemployment Insurance scheme cost?

  • Category A: For workers with a basic salary of Dhs16,000 or less, the monthly premium is Dhs5, totaling Dhs60 annually.
  • Category B: For those with a basic salary exceeding Dhs16,000, the monthly premium is Dhs10, totaling Dhs120 annually.

How much compensation will I get?

Compensation under the UAE Unemployment Insurance scheme will be calculated based on your salary and paid for up to three months from the date of unemployment.

Compensation is calculated at up to 60% of the employee’s salary. For example:

  • Category A: Maximum claim benefits are Dhs10,000 per month.
  • Category B: Maximum claim benefits are Dhs20,000 per month.
