What is Eid Al Adha?
Eid Al Adha is a deeply significant occasion, rooted in the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion—when he was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Upon sharing his vision, his son agreed to follow God’s command, but at the last moment, God intervened and sent a sheep to be sacrificed instead.
The holiday is traditionally celebrated with a few days off for both public and private sectors, giving people time to reflect, gather, and celebrate with loved ones.
As of now, the public holiday has been officially confirmed for the public sector. However, it’s expected that the private sector announcement will follow shortly—so stay tuned for the update.
What other public holidays are there in 2025?
Following Eid Al Adha, the next public holiday in 2025 will be the Islamic New Year, set for Friday, June 27.
Next up is Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) birthday, which falls on Monday, September 1, 2025.
After that, the final public holidays of the year will be in December, marking Commemoration Day and UAE National Day—rounding off the year with more well-earned time off.
Commemoration Day lands on Monday, December 1, followed by UAE National Day on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 2 and 3. That means if you usually have a two-day weekend, you’re in for a sweet five-day break—perfect for a year-end recharge!
That said, we’ll still need to wait for the official confirmations—so keep an eye on whatson.ae for the latest updates and announcements as they roll in.
