The Salik Toll Gates Opening

Now that the 2 new Salik toll gates are officially open, the prices will go up.

This news isn’t exactly surprising, as the RTA had already announced back in January that Dubai would be adding two new Salik toll gates. Now, the RTA has revealed when these gates will officially go live and start charging drivers. They’ve also confirmed whether the new toll gates will use the updated dynamic pricing system, which could hike up the cost of using Salik. So, if you’re a regular commuter in Dubai, get ready to catch up on all the crucial details you need to know, ASAP!

When Are The Salik Toll Gates Opening & Where Will It Be?

Starting Sunday, November 24, two new Salik toll gates are now active, expanding Dubai’s toll network from 8 to 10 gates. The new gates, named Business Bay and Al Safa South, are strategically positioned as follows:

Business Bay Gate
Located at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road, this new toll gate targets a key route heavily used by commuters from Sharjah, Al Nahda, and Al Qusais. Al Khail Road is one of the busiest thoroughfares in Dubai, and the introduction of this toll gate is expected to cut traffic on Al Khail Road by up to 15% and reduce congestion on Al Rabat Street by as much as 16%.

Al Safa South Gate
Situated between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street on Sheikh Zayed Road, the Al Safa South gate will help alleviate congestion for drivers heading toward Meydan Street and Financial Center Street. The gate is designed to redirect traffic onto First Al Khail Street and Al Asayel Street, with an anticipated 15% drop in the number of vehicles turning right from Sheikh Zayed Road onto Meydan Street.

But Will You Be Charged Double Under The Al Safa Gate?

Despite recent rumors about toll pricing changes during peak and off-peak times, Salik has confirmed that no such plans are currently in place. The toll charge for crossing any gate in Dubai will remain AED 4, with no dynamic pricing on the horizon. Any future adjustments to toll fees would need approval from the Dubai RTA and the Executive Council.

Will There Be More Toll Gates In The Future?

Regarding future toll gates, Al Haddad clarified that while there’s no set timeline, additional tolls may be added based on ongoing studies of traffic patterns and congestion.

So, make sure your Salik tags are topped up and ready to go!
