Real Estate Agents Denied A Woman An Apartment Because Of Her Nationality
A woman from Cameroon had been residing in the UAE for some time and was on the lookout for a new rental home in Dubai or Sharjah. She discovered a few listings on UAE property platforms and started reaching out to agents. The conversation was pretty standard, just like any exchange between an agent and a potential tenant—until they inquired about her nationality.
The conversation took an unexpected turn when she revealed her nationality.
Many agents responded by saying that the building didn’t permit tenants from certain countries. Aware of this, she started asking the agents upfront if her nationality would be a problem before visiting the property.

What these agents and landlords are doing is against the law.
As long as a tenant can afford the rent, they should be granted the same rights as everyone else. The UAE’s Law No. 02 of 2015 strictly prohibits any form of discrimination based on religion, caste, creed, doctrine, race, color, or ethnic origin. This law aims to foster an environment of tolerance and acceptance in the UAE. Residents frequently emphasize the country’s zero tolerance for discrimination—let’s make sure it stays that way!
