Dubai to RAK road closure

Road shutdown from Dubai to RAK starting on September 1st

Expect road closures on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11) starting September 1 as major upgrade begins

Heads up, drivers! There’s a road closure coming on the popular E11 highway between Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah starting September 1.

As part of a major roadworks project, certain sections in Ras Al Khaimah will be closed during the first phase. To keep traffic flowing safely, a temporary 2km detour road will be built.

If you’re hitting the E11 or nearby routes, expect some delays and make sure to follow official detours. Plan ahead to avoid the hassle and stay safe on the road!

What’s being upgraded?

The project includes:

·        Expanding the highway from two lanes to four lanes in each direction

·        Adding a dedicated service road for local traffic

·        Constructing new bridges and tunnels at key junctions

·        Installing essential infrastructure including electricity, telecoms, irrigation, rainwater drainage, and LED street lighting

Where do the roadworks take place?

The upgrade stretches from Al Hamra Roundabout to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311).

Traffic changes during construction

Stage One: Sections near Al Hamra Roundabout will close, with traffic rerouted along alternative paths.

Stage Two: Road widening continues, featuring new bridges and tunnels at key spots like Dolphin Junction (S4), the E11 to E311 Junction (D1), the Red Tunnel (S3), and Mina Al Arab Tunnel (F1/F2). Additional lanes will be added to help ease congestion.

Why is the upgrade happening?

The Department of Public Services emphasizes that this upgrade is essential to keep up with Ras Al Khaimah’s growing population. Once finished, the road network will be safer, faster, and more modern for everyone on the move.

Don’t forget. Ras Al Khaimah will also be home to the UAE’s first casino

Wynn Al Marjan Island, the luxury resort in Ras Al Khaimah by Wynn Resorts, just scored a major win — it’s been granted the UAE’s first-ever commercial gaming license.

This milestone comes after the government’s 2023 launch of a regulatory body for commercial gaming, marking a huge leap forward for the Wynn Al Marjan megaproject. The resort will soon unveil a full-scale casino — the first of its kind in the UAE.
