You can have black points removed from your license
The UAE’s Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Federal Traffic Council, has launched this year’s “Accident-Free Day” campaign to encourage safer driving nationwide.
Mark your calendars: Monday, August 25 is the official day — it also marks the first day of the new school year, a time when roads across the country are expected to be especially busy.
The initiative aims to raise awareness and promote responsible driving as traffic ramps up.
Drivers who keep it clean on the roads this Accident-Free Day will earn real rewards.
If you go the whole day without causing or getting into any traffic incidents, you’ll have up to 4 black points removed from your license — a solid incentive for safe driving.
The point deduction will be applied by September 15.
The campaign aims to promote responsible driving and raise awareness about essential road safety habits — like wearing seatbelts, sticking to speed limits, and staying off your phone behind the wheel.
It’s all part of a larger push to reduce traffic accidents and injuries across the UAE and build a safer road culture for everyone.
Brigadier Engineer Hussein Al Harthi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior, stated,
“We are committed to launching campaigns that promote traffic safety by encouraging responsible and positive behavior among drivers.”
“This effort calls for the cooperation of everyone — drivers, pedestrians, and the wider community,” said Brigadier Engineer Hussein Al Harthi.
“We’re launching the campaign on the first day of school for a reason — student safety is our top priority.”
To sign up, log on to the Ministry of Interior’s (MOI) website and sign the pledge.
What are black points?
Black points are issued as penalties for traffic violations, with the number depending on how serious the offence is.
If a driver accumulates 24 black points within 12 months, their license will be suspended under UAE traffic law.
