Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) just dropped an update: the traffic upgrade project on Umm Suqeim is now 70% done. This revamp is part of a bigger transformation for the Umm Suqeim to Al Qudra corridor — a 16 km stretch linking Jumeirah Street all the way to Emirates Road.
The development will assist over one million residents as it will serve several residential and development areas such as Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board at Dubai’s RTA, shared that the project is set to slash travel time between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by a huge 61% — cutting it down from 9.7 minutes to just 3.8. Once complete, the road will handle up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, seriously boosting traffic flow and easing congestion.
The finished phase of the project covers a 4.6 km stretch, running from the Al Khail Road junction all the way to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
The project also includes upgrading the Umm Suqeim and Al Barsha South intersection, featuring the construction of an 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction along Umm Suqeim Street. This move supports RTA’s push to enhance connectivity across four of Dubai’s key highways: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
Dubai, as we know, is taking on many projects to improve traffic in Dubai, such as the recently launched bus pooling service.
