Dubai Metro Blue Line construction traffic

Traffic jams are to be expected in Dubai when construction of the new Metro Blue Line gets underway.

If you’re regularly on the roads in Dubai, heads up — new traffic diversions are now in effect as work kicks off on the Dubai Metro Blue Line.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed temporary changes, with a recent post on X stating: “RTA announces traffic diversions in Mirdif, coinciding with the beginning of construction works on the Dubai Metro Blue Line.”

So if Mirdif’s part of your commute, it’s worth planning ahead.

The Blue Line is set to link nine major hubs across Dubai — including International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Mirdif, and Dubai Creek Harbour — bridging DXB with some of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.
Once complete, it’s expected to serve over a million residents, making it a game-changing addition to Dubai’s transport network.

Where are the diversions happening?

As part of the new diversions, the roundabout connecting 5th and 8th Street near City Centre Mirdif is now closed.
Traffic is being rerouted from 5th to 8th Street toward the mall, and vice versa — from 8th to 5th Street heading toward Algeria Street.

For mall visitors, an alternative access road has been opened for parking, while residents will find a new U-turn near Ghoroob Square to ease traffic coming from City Centre Mirdif Street.

Why the disruption is worth it

Announced in November 2023, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is one of the city’s most ambitious infrastructure projects to date.
Stretching 30km, the line will include 14 stations — with three key interchange points connecting to the existing Red and Green lines — making cross-city travel faster and more seamless than ever.

As Dubai continues to grow at pace, the Blue Line is set to play a major role in easing traffic, while offering a sustainable, efficient, and budget-friendly transit option for both residents and visitors.

There’s no confirmed completion date just yet, but once it’s up and running, the Blue Line is expected to level up the city’s public transport game — making the current road disruptions a small price to pay.
