A new national celebration day has been unveiled, marking an exciting chapter in the UAE’s dedication to education! On Monday, September 30th, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed announced that February 28th will now be celebrated annually as ‘Emirati Day for Education.’ This day is all about honoring everyone in the education sector and recognizing their vital contributions to the UAE’s growth. Let’s dive in and see if this means we’ll score another public holiday in the UAE!
The Significance Of February 28
This date is historically significant as it commemorates a key milestone for the UAE. On February 28, 1982, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan attended the graduation of the first group of teachers from UAE University. This moment marked the dawn of a new era in the UAE’s growth and dedication to education.
Will We Get A Public Holiday?
While February 28th will be a fantastic day of celebration, it’s unlikely that UAE residents will enjoy a public holiday for it. The same goes for Union Pledge Day, celebrated on July 18th, which also doesn’t come with a day off. However, with Cabinet Resolution No. 27 announced earlier this year, there’s still hope that local governments may grant a day off for Emirati Day for Education and Union Pledge Day in 2025. We’ll only find out if we can look forward to more public holidays in 2025 as the date approaches!
