High winds, scorching heat, and dusty skies are on the horizon, here’s how to stay safe and comfortable
“Get ready — Monday’s bringing intense heat and dusty conditions across the UAE, says the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). Expect scorching daytime temps hitting around 44°C in coastal cities like Abu Dhabi, with strong winds up to 40 km/h kicking up heavy dust and slashing visibility on roads and in open areas.”

“It’s not just about discomfort — these conditions can seriously impact your health. Doctors are seeing a rise in respiratory issues and sinus flare-ups during dust storms. Even those without prior breathing problems are feeling the effects, as the heat and airborne particles put extra pressure on the lungs. Authorities are also warning drivers to stay alert — sudden dust clouds can drastically cut visibility, making highways and open roads dangerous.”
How to protect yourself on dusty, sweltering days
- Stay inside during peak hours – Limit outdoor exposure between 11 AM and 4 PM, when heat and dust levels are at their worst.
- Seal it up – Keep windows and doors shut tight. Use HEPA air purifiers to improve indoor air quality and block out fine dust particles.
- Heading out? Gear up. – If you have to be outside, wear an N95 mask, sunglasses, and light, breathable clothing. Skip intense outdoor activities.
- Hydrate like it’s your job – Sip water regularly to combat dehydration and soothe your airways from heat and dust exposure.
- If you have asthma, COPD, or allergies – Always carry your medications and inhalers. Use saline nasal rinses to ease irritation.
- Post-dust clean-up – Once the skies clear, deep clean your space. Vacuum with a HEPA filter, dust with damp cloths, and replace HVAC filters to keep your indoor air fresh and safe.
