A 1.5 billion dirham transformation…
In 2024, Abu Dhabi rolled out its Tourism Strategy 2030—a bold blueprint aiming to boost annual visitor numbers from nearly 24 million in 2023 to a projected 39.3 million by 2030.
To hit this ambitious target, a series of key initiatives are in the works—most notably, expanding the city’s tourism offerings and significantly increasing hotel room capacity. Leading the charge is Aldar Properties PJSC, a government-owned real estate powerhouse that’s playing a major role in bringing this vision to life.
Aldar is set to invest AED 1.5 billion in a major revamp of its hotel portfolio—this includes upgrading existing properties and bringing fresh, new hospitality brands to Abu Dhabi, elevating the capital’s appeal for both regional and global travelers.
Here’s what we know so far…
Waldorf Astoria
Aldar has teamed up with Hilton to rebrand the Eastern Mangroves hotel under the prestigious Waldorf Astoria name. The transformation will include a full revamp of the rooms and suites, upgraded leisure and event spaces, and a refreshed promenade and marina. Guests and residents can also look forward to new retail outlets and elevated residential offerings as part of the overall enhancement plan.
Straylight Yas, Vignette Collection
Aldar is reimagining Yas Plaza with a refreshed master plan, transforming the six-hotel complex into a fully integrated resort under the new name Straylight Yas, Vignette Collection. Set to feature exclusive beachfront suites and access to a private beach, the resort will offer guests an elevated, all-in-one experience. Once complete—expected by Q4 2025—Straylight Yas will proudly stand as the world’s largest Vignette Collection resort.
Nurai Island
Nurai Island is set for a major transformation, reinforcing its status as Abu Dhabi’s ultimate ultra-luxury island escape. The resort’s existing villas, restaurants, spa, gym, and beach club will all be upgraded, paving the way for a significant expansion. New additions will include more opulent villas, a grand ballroom, a community hub, and a jetty. Once complete, these upgrades will make Nurai Island the largest luxury resort of its kind in the region.
Additionally, Aldar’s flagship hospitality properties in Ras Al Khaimah—Rixos Bab Al Bahr and DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island—are set to undergo phased renovations. The upgrades will include refreshed guest rooms, expanded dining options, enhanced entertainment experiences, and improved public spaces, all aimed at elevating the overall guest experience.
Nobu Hotel
And of course, we can’t overlook Aldar’s exciting plans to bring the iconic Nobu Hotel to Saadiyat Island’s Mamsha beach. While an official opening date hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’s slated to debut in 2027—adding another ultra-luxury gem to Abu Dhabi’s hospitality scene.
Aldhafra Resort, Vignette Collection, an IHG Hotel
Yas Plaza and Tilal Liwa Hotel in Al Dhafra, which closed for renovations in April 2024, have now unveiled the stunning new Aldhafra Resort, Vignette Collection, an IHG Hotel. This fresh addition is set to offer a luxurious new experience in the region.
