As always, this year’s line-up is packed with bold, creative, and diverse storytelling from across the Arab world. Over the 10-day festival, audiences can catch 10 feature films, including 6 Gulf Premieres and 3 UAE Premieres, representing voices from 10 Arab countries—Lebanon, Sudan, UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Iraq, Qatar, Jordan, and Syria.
True to tradition, this year’s edition places a strong spotlight on female talent, with nearly half of the featured films directed by women—continuing Cinema Akil’s mission to champion Arab women both behind the lens and on screen.
The festival opens with Three by Emirati director Nayla Al Khaja—a gripping tale that dives into themes of possession, exorcism, belief, and doubt. Rooted in local folklore and narratives that explore forces beyond our understanding (and not always benevolent ones), it promises a chilling yet thought-provoking start to the week.
Adding to the immersive experience, the festival will also feature a mix of five in-person and virtual Q&As, giving audiences a unique chance to engage with the brilliant minds behind these cinematic gems.
