Dubai RTA electric bus plans

Our RTA bus network may soon include electric buses.

RTA is hitting the road with a new green move—electric buses are now in pilot mode.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is gearing up to add electric buses to Dubai’s public transport mix. A new pilot program has hit the streets with an electric bus now running on route F13—a key feeder line connecting Al Quoz Bus Depot to the Dubai Mall Metro Bus Stop.

Starting from Al Quoz Bus Depot, the electric bus on route F13 cruises past some of Dubai’s most iconic spots—including Burj Khalifa, The Palace Downtown, and the Dubai Fountain—before wrapping up at the Dubai Mall Metro Bus Stop (South).

This next-gen bus is packed with smart tech to make every ride smoother and safer. Think high-def cameras and screens replacing old-school mirrors, plus a transparent display that beams key driving info onto the windscreen—keeping the driver alert and the journey seamless.

Onboard, passengers can expect top-tier comfort with a world-class air conditioning system and serious power under the hood.
The 12-metre-long electric bus is equipped with a massive 470 kWh battery—the largest ever tested in RTA’s fleet—delivering a range of up to 370 km on a full charge. It can carry up to 76 passengers, with 41 seated and room for 35 to stand, making it both spacious and sustainable.

Do we need electric buses?

The answer lies in the eco-friendly benefits of sustainable transport.
Electric buses help reduce emissions, adding even more sustainability to the already green advantages of public transport. These smart, environmentally conscious systems bring Dubai closer to its ambitious goal of achieving zero-emission mobility by 2050.

Along with a major Metro network expansion, new systems like the Rail Bus, Bus-on-Demand, Etihad Rail, Sky Pods, and even flying taxis are all in the works, ushering in a new era of innovative, sustainable transport options.
