RTA's Dhs1.5 billion traffic solution

The Dhs1.5 billion bridge project will reduce traffic in eight Dubai areas, according to RTA.

If you’re tired of traffic, here’s some good news for you…

A new Dhs1.5bn bridge project is set to ease traffic for 600,000 people, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The Al Fay Road Improvement Project will revamp five major intersections, adding 13,500 meters of bridges and 12,900 meters of new roads.

The project will stretch from the intersections with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and will continue all the way to Emirates Road.

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), mentioned that the project will especially benefit areas like Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tilal Al Ghaf, Damac Lagoons, The Oasis, and Remraam.

The RTA expects this project to ease traffic for approximately 600,000 people by boosting the road’s capacity to 64,400 vehicles per hour. It also highlighted that the initiative is designed to address Dubai’s expanding population and the demands of “urban development.” Al Tayer added, “Due to the massive scale of the project, which involves developing five intersections, it has been split into two phases.”

“The first intersection will feature a two-lane bridge at the junction of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, spanning 1,255 meters and with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. This will accommodate left turns for traffic coming from Deira on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Fay Road, heading in the direction of Emirates Road.”

“The number of service road lanes in both directions will be increased to enhance capacity and improve traffic flow at the intersection. The project also includes the construction of two bridges, each with two lanes per direction, spanning 2,040 meters and providing a combined capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour in both directions.”

“The bridge will facilitate direct traffic movement to and from Jumeirah Village Circle, connecting it seamlessly to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.”

A bridge will be built on Al Fay Road, featuring four lanes in each direction.

It was also mentioned that a roundabout will be transformed into a surface intersection to ease traffic flow to and from Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City.

Additionally, a two-lane flyover service road will be built on Al Fay Road, along with a new intersection at the junction of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and Al Fay Road.

Al Tayer added, “At the fourth intersection (Al Fay Road with Emirates Road), a two-lane bridge will be built to accommodate left turns for traffic coming from Al Fay Road towards Emirates Road, heading in the direction of Al Aweer and Al Khawaneej, reaching Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.”

“The bridge spans 1,000 meters and has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It also includes the construction of a two-lane bridge for left turns, allowing traffic coming from Emirates Road to Al Fay Road in the direction of Deira.”

“The bridge spans 1,150 meters and has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. As for the fifth intersection, direct entrances will be built from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City, featuring two two-lane bridges, each 2,250 meters long, with a combined capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour. These bridges will facilitate direct traffic movement between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Dubai Production City in both directions.”
