Heads up if you’re driving through Dubai on Sunday, November 10 or Sunday, November 24! Sheikh Zayed Road will be temporarily closed for two major events as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. The closures will mainly happen in the early morning to keep things smooth and give participants a chance to take over Dubai’s legendary highway.
On November 10, the Dubai Ride will turn Sheikh Zayed Road into a cyclist’s dream come true. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, this one-of-a-kind event lets you pedal along a closed-off section of the highway. But hurry—everyone needs to finish their ride by 8:15 AM, as the road will open back up shortly after to resume regular traffic. Riders can choose between a 4km family-friendly route through Downtown Dubai and a 12km route with epic views of iconic spots like the Museum of the Future, Coca-Cola Arena, and Business Bay.
Two weeks later, on November 24, the Dubai Run will take over Sheikh Zayed Road, giving runners of all levels the chance to race on one of the city’s busiest streets. The 5km route starts near the Museum of the Future, taking runners past iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Opera, with the finish line at Dubai Mall. For those seeking a bigger challenge, the 10km route offers a scenic journey across the Dubai Canal Bridge, finishing near the DIFC Gate. The road will stay closed until the last runner finishes, with the 10km starting at 7:30 AM and the 5km at 8 AM.
Quick Public Transport Tip: The Dubai Metro will be running as usual during both events, so if you’re heading through Downtown, it’s a smooth and hassle-free alternative to get around.
Sheikh Zayed Road closures offer a unique opportunity for residents to experience the city from a completely new angle. If you’re up for the adventure, registration for both events is still open!
