Personal drones now legal in UAE

UAE ban on the personal use of drones has now been lifted

But operators will need to follow tight rules…

The UAE authorities are ready to relax the rules on drone use in the country. Starting Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the ban on personal drone use has been lifted, but operators will have to meet strict conditions.

In November, the Ministry of Interior (MOI), the National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority, and the General Civil Aviation Authority revealed that the drone flying ban in the UAE – which has been in effect since January 2022 – will be phased out.

A statement from the ministry highlighted that the phased lift of the drone ban “prioritizes airspace safety and ensures the protection of people, property, and society.”

An update from the MOI this week officially confirmed the lift of the ban on personal drone use, as long as operators follow the official guidelines. Those looking to fly drones in the UAE can now access a newly launched online platform, where the official rules are available. This can be accessed through the UAE Drones app or on drones.gov.ae.
