Several UAE schools are stepping up efforts to keep their campuses vape-free.
GEMS Education is launching a new initiative with tougher policies and awareness campaigns aimed at tackling vaping and smoking among students.
New measures in place
To address the growing vaping trend among students, GEMS Education has rolled out a zero-tolerance campaign that includes:
- Random Bag Checks: Students may undergo surprise checks to ensure no vaping devices are brought to school.
- Vape Detection Sensors: High-tech sensors will be installed in schools to detect vaping in real-time and alert administrators immediately.
- Education and Awareness: Anti-vaping lessons will be incorporated into the curriculum to educate students about the dangers of vaping and nicotine addiction.
Advanced vape sensors
The new vape detection sensors will be placed in key locations across campuses. These sensors are designed to:
- Differentiate vaping smoke from other airborne particles, ensuring accurate detection.
- Detect certain words like ‘help’, alerting staff if a student is in distress.
In addition to enforcement measures, students caught vaping will participate in educational sessions with counselors to help them quit. Schools will also collaborate with medical professionals to provide support for students struggling with nicotine addiction.
