Dubai-Cashless

By 2026, Dubai will (nearly) entirely eliminate cash.

Some of you are already using Apple Pay, just like Apple’s covering the costs…

As a forward-thinking city and a true Tomorrow land of innovation and design, Dubai is constantly exploring new smart solutions to boost efficiency and elevate the lives of its residents.

Whether it’s enhancing transport networks, increasing public beach access, simplifying public service experiences, or digitizing the city bit by bit.

One of the latest goals in the ongoing future-proofing project is to ditch cash and go fully digital. The Dubai Cashless Strategy aims to make 90 percent of all transactions cashless by 2026.

This surge in fintech innovation could potentially drive economic growth by Dhs8 billion annually.

This cashless initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and supports Digital Dubai’s mission of “Digitalizing Life in Dubai.”

Speaking about the strategy, Abdulrahman Saleh Al Saleh, Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Finance, stated: “Dubai has a sophisticated financial ecosystem that meets international standards. The Dubai Cashless Strategy aligns with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to strengthen the emirate’s position in the global business landscape.”

He also highlighted that “97 percent of Dubai government transactions were digital in 2023.”

The aim is that this goal will spark growth in AI-driven innovations and contactless technology, while also delivering a better and definitely more seamless experience for end customers.
