It marks the historic first official visit of a UAE President to Washington, DC…
UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, kicked off his official visit to the USA with a series of significant meetings focused on collaborative strategies across a range of policy issues.
This historic first official visit of a UAE President to Washington will feature in-depth discussions with US President Joe Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris, the official Democratic nominee for the 2024 US Presidential Elections.
Key notes
Building on five decades of friendship, HH Sheikh Mohamed’s trip to the US capital aims to reinforce ties and identify common ground on various issues, including peace and stability across the Middle East and beyond, economic policy, clean energy, trade, space, AI, investment, technology, supply chain resilience, climate change, defense, cybersecurity, and humanitarian efforts in Gaza and Sudan.
On Gaza
Part of the U.S.-UAE Joint Leaders’ Statement, issued on Monday, September 24, emphasizes the commitment of both countries’ leadership to “continue collaborating towards ending the conflict and advocating for a lasting and sustainable ceasefire.”
On Space
The Joint Statement also reaffirmed the partnership between the UAE and the US in exploring space. This announcement coincides with the UAE Space Agency’s preparations for the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt, the first-ever “multi-asteroid tour and landing mission.” This landmark project will be carried out with the support of their US partner, the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder.
That’s not the only cosmic collaboration between the two countries. In January, it was announced that the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center would be partnering with NASA to develop an airlock for Gateway—the first lunar orbit space station and a crucial element of the Artemis Program.
