Dubai Ruler Approves The Expansion Of Dubai Exhibition Centre

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, has approved a AED 10 billion plan to expand the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC).

The master plan aims to position the DEC as the largest indoor events venue in the region by boosting the annual number of large-scale events hosted in Dubai from 300 to 600.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated “We are committed to consolidating Dubai’s status as a global leader in the events and exhibitions sector and the top destination for mega events.”

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated, “We are dedicated to strengthening Dubai’s position as a global leader in the events and exhibitions sector and the premier destination for mega events.”

The project comprises three phases that align with the vision of Expo City Dubai as part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. The first phase, set to be completed by 2026, will feature 140,000 square meters of exhibition space—nearly two and a half times the current size.

The second phase, expected to be completed by 2028, will expand the exhibition space to approximately 160,000 square meters, alongside enhancements to the surrounding infrastructure, road networks, and multi-storey parking facilities.

The third and final phase, anticipated for completion by 2031, will expand the space to 180,000 square meters and feature the addition of 26 halls on a single level that spans 1.2 kilometers. This floor will be capable of hosting one large event or 20 smaller events simultaneously, if needed. Additionally, this phase will include the development of a hotel with over 300 rooms, numerous retail stores, office spaces, and an industrial kitchen for comprehensive in-house operations.

This mega project is expected to alleviate congestion and traffic during large-scale events in the city. It will further solidify Dubai’s status as a premier global destination for hosting events and exhibitions, all while ensuring that the city’s functionality for its residents remains uninterrupted.
