Rainfall expected as tropical storm approaches this week

Could this signal the end of summer?

The UAE’s weather is shifting this week, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued an alert for a tropical storm in the northeast Arabian Sea. This storm is forecasted to bring rainfall to the eastern and southern regions on Wednesday, September 4, and Thursday, September 5.

Rainfall is expected to be minimal, with just 5.6mm anticipated this month, resulting in mostly light drizzle across most areas. Today, Ras Al Khaimah recorded a low of 23ºC, while September’s average temperature remains a warm 33.3ºC. Humidity is also increasing, particularly towards the latter part of the month, with an average of 76 percent.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Friday and Saturday will be fair to partly cloudy, with a chance of convective clouds developing in the east by the afternoon. Expect humid nights with a potential for fog or mist in some western areas. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally picking up and causing blowing dust.

Suhail star spotted

The International Astronomical Center announced that the Suhail star was officially sighted in the UAE’s dawn sky over the weekend on Saturday, August 24, 2024. According to folklore, the appearance of the Suhail star signals the end of the peak summer heat in the UAE.

Of course, we shouldn’t anticipate an immediate drop in temperatures. UAE residents can expect a significant cooling effect to be felt after a 70 to 80-day delay.
