With a huge floating bridge and around-the-clock night swimming…
One of the most thrilling recent updates from the team behind Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040 is the blend of two of the city’s most fluent love languages: stunning beaches and epic megaprojects.
Two of the city’s most beloved beaches are set to undergo a complete transformation.
Sandcastles
The two waterfront spots getting the upgrade are the 4.3km stretch of Al Mamzar and the 1.4km stretch of Jumeirah 1. What’s even more exciting? The project is set to be completed within just 18 months.
The Al Mamzar project alone comes with a hefty budget of around Dhs400 million—serious bucket-and-spade money. The first phase is already 45% done, and both phases are on track to be completed by 2025.
But what sort of facilities can sun seekers expect at these updated coastal leisure complexes?
Beyond the sand and surf, the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 reveal hints at a ton of exciting new features for the beaches. Expect restaurants, showers, changing rooms, play areas, fitness zones, BBQ spots, chill-out spaces, 1,400 parking spots, Wi-Fi, AI-powered beach rescue services, a skateboarding area, seasonal event spaces, and even a cycling/running track. Plus, there’ll be a shaded walkway connecting the two beaches for easy access.
Sea change
The Al Mamzar spot will also feature a dedicated ladies-only night swimming beach and a 200-meter-long floating bridge, which, from the renderings, looks set to offer its own leisure and recreational facilities.
The beaches will be elevated—not just literally, to protect against climate change, but also in the modern sense, bringing a touch of sophistication. And for the loyal regulars of Jumeirah 1 and Al Mamzar, don’t worry: both beaches will remain partially open throughout the renovations.
