Recognizing the significance of this essential social building block…
“The family is a national priority,” as stated by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This quote comes from an announcement on X (formerly Twitter) about the creation of a new UAE government department, the Ministry of Family.
Leading this new government initiative will be Her Excellency Sanaa Suhail, who brings a wealth of experience in early childhood, family support, and advocating for people of determination to her role as Minister of Family.
The establishment of the Ministry of Family was directed by HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
In the announcement, HH Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the vital role of the family in the UAE, stating, “The family is a national priority, the cornerstone of our journey, and a guarantee for the future of the nation. The directives from the President in last year’s annual meetings focused on the need to develop comprehensive national programs to encourage family formation, promote their growth, empower them, strengthen their cohesion and stability, and increase fertility rates in the country.”
That wasn’t the only cabinet update from the weekend. HH Sheikh Mohammed also announced major changes to the department formerly known as the Ministry of Community Development. Now rebranded as the Ministry of Community Empowerment, it will be led by Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui, who has been tasked with “developing an advanced and integrated social empowerment system that enhances community participation.”
